National Coffee Day 2025: Freebies, deals and discounts brewing at Dunkin’, Krispy Kreme, Starbucks, and more

Coffee may be getting pricier, but for millions of Americans the daily cup remains a ritual that is both comforting and energising. With National Coffee Day 2025 falling on Monday, September 29, leading coffee chains across the United States are preparing to celebrate with an array of freebies, special offers, and limited-time promotions.
According to the National Coffee Association (NCA), 66 per cent of Americans drink at least one cup of coffee daily, up nearly 7 per cent since 2020. The average intake is close to 2.8 cups per day, reflecting coffee’s growing role as both a morning starter and a social beverage. While the majority of consumption happens at home (82 per cent), more than a third of coffee drinkers (36 per cent) also grab their brew on the go.
Despite inflation and rising prices, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average price of a pound of ground roast coffee reached $8.87 in August, up nearly 40 per cent from last year. Americans continue to indulge. Experts note that health research, including findings linking coffee to healthy aging in women, has bolstered its popularity.
In an unusual partnership, Dunkin’ has also teamed with sleep technology company Hatch to launch the “Brew and Renew” alarm. Available on Hatch’s Restore devices, the feature mimics the sounds of coffee brewing as a wake-up call. Customers can also access Dunkin’-themed colour schemes under Hatch’s premium subscription plan.
Krispy Kreme’s “cup of Joe” with Joe Jonas
At Krispy Kreme, the celebrations include both coffee and doughnuts, courtesy of a collaboration with singer Joe Jonas. Customers can claim a free medium hot or iced coffee and a free doughnut of choice on September 29, with no purchase necessary.
In addition, those seeking more sweetness can purchase a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just $1 with the purchase of any other dozen at full price. The deal is valid both in-store and through the Krispy Kreme app.
Starbucks offers bonus rewards and new launches
Coffee giant Starbucks is focusing its National Coffee Day celebrations on rewards and product innovation. Customers who buy any brewed coffee, hot or iced, will receive 100 bonus stars in the Starbucks app—enough to redeem for a free beverage later.
Delivery enthusiasts are not left behind: Grubhub+ members can avail $7 off Starbucks orders of $20 or more. The chain is also using the day to launch its much-anticipated line of Protein Lattes and Protein Cold Foam, reflecting the rising demand for functional beverages.
A wide menu of national and regional offers
From Seattle Coffee Gear’s equipment discounts to Maxwell House’s limited-edition releases, the promotions extend well beyond beverages, reflecting coffee’s cultural and economic reach.
A celebration beyond the cup
Bill Murray, President and CEO of the National Coffee Association, noted that coffee’s resilience is more than just habit. “Coffee’s staying power as a beloved touchstone in Americans’ daily lives is remarkable, and its contributions to our health and our economy give Americans even more grounds for celebration this National Coffee Day and every day,” he said.
For consumers, the day provides not only free coffee but also a reminder of the beverage’s role in connecting communities, fuelling productivity, and bringing small moments of joy.
